The Okotoks Mustangs will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday October 21, 2008, at 7:00pm at the Lakeview Inn in Okotoks.

All members are welcome to attend.

CDLA Rule Reminders:

Tyke Format
• No two-line rule
• No 30-second clock
• Play with the tyke boards
• Super Star rule is in effect
Only 3 goals by a single player will count toward the score
If more are score they will be treated as goal (face-off) but will not show on the scoresheet or scoreboard
Novice Format
• Regular box rules apply
NO two-line rule
Play WITH the 30-second clock

Repeat Offenders

Any player or coach who is involved in 3 or more major penalty incidents or misconducts or any combination will be treated as a repeat offender and disciplined accordingly.

COACHING BULLETIN

Now that the practice of running a split bench with players designated to only play in the offensive zone and others in the defensive zone when even strength has raised questions from coaches. In order to address this problem, the CLA web site under ‘Ask The Coach’ section in the Coaches section will attempt to address all possible situations.

Coaches who don’t find answers are to send their questions to the CLA office for clarification and those questions and answers will appear on the web site

WELCOME TO THE 2008 SEASON!

Lacrosse season is quickly approaching beginning with our registration process. Please go to the registration link at the top of the page to download and print a current registration form. Please correct and/or complete all sections of the form. We will also be holding walk in registration at the Triplex on Saturday, February 9 from 10 am - 2 pm. Registrations may be mailed to OKOTOKS MUSTANGS LACROSSE ASSOCIATION, P.O. BOX 898, OKOTOKS, AB. T1S 1A9 and must be postmarked by February 15th, 2008. Please make cheques (registration fees and volunteer) payable to: OKOTOKS MUSTANGS LACROSSE ASSOCIATION.

Lacrosse truly is 'the fastest game on two feet'. In 2007 there were 309 registered OMLA minor lacrosse players from Mini Tyke through Midget representing 19 teams. Our teams continue to be strong ambassadors for Okotoks with their excellent play in the game of lacrosse. We will continue to promote excellent skills and exhibit first class sportsmanship both on and off the floor as we represent Okotoks.

A huge thank you to the committed core volunteers who spend countless hours promoting lacrosse in Okotoks. Players from 4 years to 21 years of age are able to play within their community because of the dedication of volunteers. Our goal is to have everyone involved with our lacrosse program; sharing the tasks that need to be done and also educating people on the game of lacrosse. The time commitment required is minimal when compared with the results gained by our children. Tasks will vary by individual so that it is not arduous on anyone. Volunteer positions exist both at a board level and team level. At this time the following positions need to be filled: Mini-Tyke Director, Novice Director, Bantam and Midget Director. These divisions will not run until the position is filled. If you are interested, please indicate so on your child’s registration.

As a non-profit organization we will continue to keep our fees in check. For 2008, we are faced with several increases; floor rental, increase in ALA fees, and increase in CDLA fees (including the hiring of an executive director). OMLA continues to struggle to keep increases to a minimum. In 2007, new jerseys were purchased for all teams. We are in the process of purchasing new goalie gear for each division as required by new CLA certifications. All goalie gear and jerseys are professionally cleaned at the end of the season to ensure the health and safety of players.

Important notes for the 2008 season:

• Peewee age players and Bantam age players are eligible to try out for an Alberta team to attend the Peewee Nationals competition or the Bantam Nationals competition. Registration forms may be found on our website.

• Applications for National team coach can be found on our website.

• Discount for goalies with their own equipment is available.

• Family discount available for those with 3 or more players – 50% discount on youngest player.

• A $150 post-dated volunteer cheque (June 15, 2008) separate from the registration cheque is required for each participant. The cheque is destroyed once the team manager has confirmed participation. The posted-dated cheque is required in addition to the registration cheque before a child is allowed on the floor.

• The season will begin the end of March and will end approximately July 1st.

• Please mark the box on the attached registration form if interested in referee sign up. Our Association is in need of referees for ages 12 years to adult – Please consider.

• Okotoks has submitted an application to once again host the Okotoks Spring Classic.

• Junior age players will receive a separate registration mailing.

• We will provide training to people with the willingness to help on the floor. Please indicate on the attached registration for these positions.

• Each player is expected to wear black shorts for games. Shorts with the Mustang logo are available for purchase.

• Mustangs jerseys (previous years) may be purchased for $35. These make great practice jerseys.
