Midget

The Okotoks Mustangs strive to offer a full spectrum lacrosse program for all players at this age level. For a number of players, this is the pinnacle of their minor league experience as they have progressed from the first days of mini-tyke, and we commit to offering a highly competitive level for these individuals. Our program is also designed to offer those players that have not played to this extent an opportunity to participate through graduated levels of league play. With a well established Junior and Senior program in Okotoks, a player can continue his lacrosse playing career well beyond the Minor Association. We are one of the only small communities in Alberta that can offer this great opportunity.
Definitions for each level of play are adopted from the "levels of development" of the National Coaches Certification Program and the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA): Competitive "A"- a 'learn to win' program requiring enhanced commitments on the part of players and parents. - Commitment to attend all games (at least 95%) - Commitment to attend all regular scheduled practices (at least 95%) - Expect additional team practices and games (75% commitment for attendance) - Commitment to more than one tournament if chosen by team - Commitment to participate in Provincials if chosen by team
Recreational "B"- a 'learn to compete' program requiring moderate to enhanced commitment on the part of players and parents. - Commitment to 90% of all games - Commitment to 90% of all regular scheduled practices - Commitment to 75% of any additionally scheduled practices - Commitment to at least one tournament chosen by team Recreational "C"- a 'learn to play' and 'learn to compete' program (varies by age group) requiring moderate commitment on the part of players and parents. - Commitment to 90% of all games - Commitment to 90% of all regular scheduled practices - Commitment to 75% of any additionally scheduled practices. Because of the enhanced commitments, that come with the Competitive "A" programs, parents and players participating in those programs will be asked to sign a letter agreeing to the commitments of that program. - click on commitment letter to print....
This year we have changed our view on participation, as with all team sports you commit to a team. As the success of the team depends on the participation of each and every player at any level at which you play and if you do not show up for practices or games you not only let yourself down but also every player on your team.
At the Midget level, any player can try out for "A" level teams as well as attend the Team Alberta tryouts, and we encourage all players to challenge their abilities and do so.
